Decorating with Birdcages and Lanterns

Birdcages are not for housing your feather friends anymore.  They have become an accessory in your home.  The only thing missing is the bird or at least the chirping kind.  Looking through shelter magazines, pinterest and blogs, you can not miss this new trend.  Birdcages have taken over.  They are now filled with candles, plants and just about anything that will fit inside them.

The candles inside this birdcage have a bird on them.  What a great idea.  I love the unusual shape of these birdcages.

The white birdcage staged with birdhouses and other vintage items really makes a statement in this room.

Hanging birdcages on the wall is another great idea.  Fill them with small terra cotta pots with herbs and flowers.  This would make a great statement in your kitchen or outdoor space.  I found these birdcages at Neimen Marcus.



Ahh what a statement the red birdcage makes on top of the book shelf.  Simplicity makes this work.

Search for vintage birdcages at flea markets and antique stores or purchase them new.  They are easy to find and most home decor stores carry them.  Try it, you will love them!

Lanterns are another trend in home design.  They are not for your outdoor spaces anymore.  Bring them inside and fill them with battery powered candles and you will have great accent lighting.  Pottery Barn carries a great selection.  I love that little touch of vintage that they give to a room.  You can group them together or make a statement with just a single lantern.

Designing for the Love of It!!

I love my job!!!  How many people can say that with passion.  I am so blessed to be given a talent from God that earns me a living and fills my heart and soul with so much joy!  I can honestly say it's not about the money, its about the opportunity to be creative and make homes beautiful.

As I celebrate 15 years in business, I thought I would take a walk down memory lane and enjoy and delight in the many people I have met and the homes that I have changed.

"If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life"  that is honestly how I feel.

This is one of my favorite rooms.  The sun room furniture gave the room a casual but elegant feel.

This study is very comfortable yet simply elegant.  I feel in love with the peacock fabric and new I had to upholster the chairs in this fabric.  The blue silk bishop sleeved draperies just finished it off.

Notice the shimmering faux finish in the ceiling.  A little unexpected in a kitchen, but it turned out fabulous.

Small guest bath was brought to center stage with this cornice.  Since  the shower had glass doors, it was difficult making this room have any pizzazz, but this wooden cornice did the trick. 

My clients wanted a little beach style in their basement.  So the soft blues with  hints of lime green really fit the bill.

This window treatment was made oversize to accommodate the large windows.  Then we made  jabots that were unusually shaped.

My favorite bedroom I have ever done!  I loved the detail in the draperies behind the bed.  This really made the clients feel like they were masters of their homes.  

This room was done for a little girl that was a little afraid of color.  Instead of painting the walls, I used pops of color  all over the room.  The walls have inspirational words painted all around and the pillows were finished off with some amazing detailed tassels and trims.  But the best part of the room is the lime green chaise lounge!!

To keep the arch shape of the windows, the cornice was arched and then we added unusual and unique  jabots.  The detail of the beaded fringe was the icing on the cake.

My all time favorite window treatment.  I did this room in a Tuscan style.  The room has 3 arched entryways that I had faux stoned.  The cornice was upholstered and then the wood trim was painted black.  This is by far one of my favorite rooms.  

This was an unfinished basement.  My clients wanted to feel like they were in a mountain cabin.  The concrete floors were stained and the structural columns were stack stoned.  It really felt like a mountain retreat.

My client already had a lot of great pieces.  I just needed to create a space plan for this open floor plan that would define the space.  The soft blue I painted the walls really helped pull the room together.

What a fun project.  The walls were painted in this amazing jungle mural.  This is a kids play room.  I wanted the window treatment to be a part of the mural, so the tree continued across the window and all the leaves were 3D.  Turned our fantastic.  Actually looked like it was suppose to be a part of the amazing painting.

Another view of the dining room pictured earlier.  The Tuscan furniture really made the room.  But it was the bronze ceiling that topped the room off.
